ALEX Ellerby collected the first www.harrogateadvertiser.net Player of the Month award, in the U-15-U-17 age group after a wonderful month on the pitch for his side Bishop Thornton.
He scooped the award for April-May after taking an incredible four wickets in five balls including a hat-trick against Studley Royal.
His figures of two overs, one maiden, four wickets for five runs was a phenomenal achievement in itself, but Alex also showed his might with the bat by scoring 51 runs, batting in the middle order of the side during the month.
He finished May with seven valuable wickets.
“I was fielding at fine leg the over before and I was thinking wouldn’t it be great if I got six wickets in the next over,” said Alex about his performance with the ball.
“I’ve never done anything like that before and it was just amazing.”
In the U-11s to U-13s 11-a-side category Steven Hodgson from Galphay and Winksley was the lucky winner after an equally impressive month for his team.
The solid wicketkeeper has formed a formidable reputation behind the sticks and scored 35 runs, taking one wicket and only conceding 14 extras.

His manager Helen Rowe said: “Stevie is a quiet member of the team, but probably one of the most reliable, attending every match and practice session.”
“Words such as solid, steady, supportive don’t sound very exciting but they are apt when describing Stevie’s contribution to the club.”

Season 2008 Preview
THE start of the Arrow Ready Drive Nidderdale Junior Cricket season is just around the corner with the anticipation rising for another successful season on the pitch. harrrogateadvertiser.net will again provide a unique mini-site where teams and young cricketers alike will be able to up-load their teams results and check on the progress of their rivals. Last season the league was blighted by the terrible weather conditions which hit the region but there is hope this year the campaign will be free of interruption and a full schedule completed. The number of junior teams has grown from last season with a warm welcome to Monkton-Markington and Pannal Ash who have submitted teams for the very first time and Glasshouses who have returned after a short absence. The campaign will officially kick-off at the end of the month so keep up to date with the action online and of course best of luck to all teams for the forthcoming campaign.

Powerful Pannal wins U-15 League play-off final

Pannal U15 Winners

Unbeaten in the league all season Pannal Pirates took their good form into the play-off final.
Batting first on an excellent wicket at Studley Royal, Pannal scored a competitive total of 111 in 22 overs against a very potent Ouseburn attack.
Catching the eye for Ouseburn were Jamie Briant 1 for 20 and Ben Jones 1 for 16.
Pannal’s total was built on a watchful opening stand of 33 from Chris Hooper (21) and Alex Lilley (19).
Then came the telling partnership of the game between James Rawlings (17) and John Hare (35 NO) who both produced some classy shots in combining to produce 53 runs.
In the field Pannal made sure Ouseburn had to work hard for every run.
Chris Hooper bowled consistent wicket taking balls finishing with figures of 2 for 13.
At the other end Alex Lilley bowled with venom and was supported by some excellent fielding.
The first change bowling kept up the pressure as James Rawlings and Jon Hare bagged 2 for 13 and 1 for 14 respectively. At 5 for 32 Ouseburn were a long way behind the run rate when Matt Henry struck quickly to take 2 for 8 from 3 overs to secure the victory.
A delighted skipper Matt Henry praised Ouseburn for the way they bowled in Pannal’s innings and the way they fielded so well. He put his own teams success down to team work.
“Everybody has worked so hard this season on every aspect of their game and its nice to see the lads producing their best form when it really counts.”

PAIRS LEAGUE FINALS
6th Sept 2007
U9 BIRSTWITH V PANNAL FALCONS
Pannal U9 Winners

The U-9s final took place early on finals day before the strong wind had subdued which took it’s toll on what should have been a spectacular final. Birstwith won the toss and decided to bat and started well accruing runs slowly with some excellent running between the wicket, but were unable to find the boundary as Pannal produced some very good fielding.
Pannal then managed to put on some pressure by keeping the run rate down with the next two pairs, leaving Birstwith final pair with some work to do to post a decent total and try as they might they found it difficult to pierce the field and some very tight bowling kept the total down to a very manageable 256.
Pannal then managed to keep their scoring to a very favourable rate, finding the boundary regularly, wickets kept falling due to some excellent catches, but the runs kept coming.
Even the 7-year-olds in the Birstwith team could see the game slipping away and in an effort to claw the game back started to give runs away with overthrows.
By the time Pannal’s skipper took the field with his partner they already had a commanding lead and was heard to say “nothing silly we just don’t need to lose wickets”, (Old head on young shoulders), however he then decided to ignore his own advice and went for it, eventually Pannal ended up on 297, a convincing victory.
A defeated but not deflated Birstwith skipper Harry Stanford then turned to his team to say “We didn’t do bad for a village team”

U-11 PAIRS HARROGATE V BISHOP THORNTON
Bishop Thornton U11 Pairs

Bishop Thornton U11 Pairs
Harrogate U11 Pairs
Another David v Goliath final as per the U-9s with big club versus Village club, however a lot closer.
Bishop Thornton batted first due mainly to being a man short initially.
They managed to slowly build a score trying hard to get past Harrogate’s fielders, lot’s of quick singles having to be taken to try to move the score on.
The last pair coming together at a run as their last man arrived for the game. Finally amassing a score of 254. Harrogate started well, but then suddenly lost a couple of wickets, which reduced their score to very close to the target.
The final pair managed to edge ahead needing only to defend their wickets in the final over where the loss would have sent the game in the oppositions favour, a massive effort on the final ball from Thornton unfortunately saw the ball go for 4 wides which then sealed the game for Harrogate. A very even and exciting gamefor all involved especially the parents and supporters from each club. Well done to all involved. Finally a big thank you to all the pairs coaches throughout the League for their efforts throughout what has been a very difficult season with the very un cricket friendly weather.

The Nidderdale League Lord's Taverners Under 15 team met with mixed fortunes winning two and losing two matches in this year's Yorkshire festival finishing third place in their five team group.

Manager Rod Ford highlighted the squad's lack of consistency and the failure of individual players to perform to their capabilities over the four group matches as being the main reasons for their final group position.
"We performed very well against North Yorkshire and Wetherby, had an indifferent match against Bradford and were very poor against East Yorkshire,” he said.
In the first game only opener James Ford (26) of the early order batsmen seemed at ease against a lively opening Bradford pace attack.
When Ford was dismissed at 58-5 things were looking bleak, a silly run out followed leaving Nidderdale on 61-6, however a lively and spirited stand of 84 between Peter Barnes (70no) and Michael Ainsley (41) rescued the side and gave them a total of 174 which they had previously not looked like achieving.
The visitors reached their target in 37.5 overs for the loss of five wickets, Jonathan Hare taking 2-18 in his three overs.
In their second game against North Yorkshire bowlers of both sides dominated.
After losing two early wickets skipper Jamie Bryant (37) and James Ford (22) shared a stand of 54.
After that the only other batsmen to reach double figures were Chris Hooper (10) and Josh North (10*).
The Nidderdale leagues bowling had to be special to win the game and indeed it was with Alex Lilley (2-28) from 10 overs) and Jamie Bryant (4-21) from 10 overs making early inroads into the North Yorkshire batting, ably supported by Chris Hooper (3-20) to leave the visitors 11 runs short of victory.
On August 7 the Nid’ side tackled the Wetherby League at Bilton CC.
In a run feast contributions from Jamie Bryant (69), Peter Barnes (68*), James Ford (36), Alex Lilley (26), and Chris Hooper (23) enabled the Nidderdale League to post a mammoth total.
In reply the opening attack of Lilley (3-38) and Bryant (3-19) were far too hostile for the Wetherby batsmen.
They were supported by Chris Hooper (2-11) and a wicket apiece for Craig Griffin and Jonathan Hare as Wetherby collapsed to 94 all out.
Needing to win their final fixture against East Yorkshire at Hull Zingari CC, Nidderdale league could not cope with the turning ball on a wicket of variable bounce and gave a very poor batting display.
Only Josh North (29no), James Ford (17), Jamie Bryant (16), and Ned Hammond (12) reached double figures. Nid’s bowling was as poor as their batting and the hosts reached their target in only 19.2 overs.
